Revised Performance Management Regulations and Guidance

The current regulations came into force in 2001. As a result of the national agreement, changes in pay structure etc. the Rewards and Incentive Group (RIG) had made some substantial revisions to these. There are five key areas of revision:
  • Planning meeting
  • Observation
  • Review and the link to pay
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Process and timings

The TDA website http://www.tda.gov.uk/teachers/performance_management.aspx has links to the following:
  • The revised Performance Management Regulations and Guidance
  • The revised Professional Standards for Teachers
  • A model Performance Management Policy for schools
  • ‘How to’ sheets which are designed to support the implementation of performance management in schools

These were reinforced at the recent Performance Management training for headteachers and governors, the presentation gives a summary of the regulations and guidance.

Other useful documents are:

The revisions must be implemented by September 2007. It is an excellent opportunity to revisit the content of Performance Management within school improvement and the diagram below identifies this very clearly:

Professional Development is a key element of the revisions and the CPD section of EduWight will help identify activities and course opportunities.
