Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning within the Primary Strategy

The local Healthy Schools Team have been tasked to manage the development of a pilot project around developing emotional intelligence to support behaviour and attendance in schools.

A multi- agency team consisting of educational psychologists, CAMHS, Behaviour Support, a Mental Health Nurse, Family Support, Social Services, a general inspector and teachers are the steering group, ensuring relevance, continuity and effectiveness in the development, implementation and evaluation of this work.

This project aims to link with current initiatives and provide the necessary structure for initially 10 schools and their communities, to explore what it means to be emotionally intelligent and possible impact on children as learners.

This aims of this project will be achieved by:

- facilitating an Emotional Intelligence Interest Group, as part of Healthy Schools meetings once a term.

- offer one days training per term, open to all schools.

- facilitate clusters working and the sharing of good practice.

The work will be based on the ‘Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning’ (SEAL) released by the DfES in March 2005.

Information collated will be used to inform the Score Card which records progress in the Every Child Matters, 5 Outcomes.
