EAL Service

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Service

The EAL Service aims to promote inclusion in schools by enabling pupils to access the curriculum and through the positive promotion of cultural diversity.

The EAL Service provides an Island wide service for pupils with English as an additional language and support for school staff who have contact with them.

Referrals are welcomed from all schools, including pre-schools, where there are concerns about a pupil with regard to their EAL status.

Support is offered through:
  • assessment
  • direct teaching or monitoring (according to individual needs)
  • liaison with school staff
  • advice and training
  • liaison with parents and other support services
  • provision of appropriate resources
