Special Educational Needs

Around one in five of all pupils may have special educational needs (SEN )at some time during their school life.

The Local Education Authority (LEA),  through it’s network of schools and support services, aims to identify individual needs as early as possible and to provide suitable support for each child and young person.
This may result in a special programme being set up within school or, in some cases, may lead to pupils being referred to one of our Support Services. Each school has a written policy for meeting special educational needs. This policy must be in line with a code of practice issued by the Department for Education and Skills and should include details of the ways in which special needs are assessed and what resources will be used to help pupils with learning difficulties.

Students themselves are encouraged to take part in discussion and decision-making about their needs when they are able to do so.
