About the education service | | The Island has 69 maintained community, controlled and aided schools. There are:
- 46 primary schools
- 16 middle schools; and
- 5 high schools
All of which are mixed-sex all-ability day schools.
There are two special schools, which are co-educational
Admission to community and controlled schools is based on priority areas. You can ask for your child to attend a school in your priority area or a different one if you wish. There are different admission arrangements for aided schools because these schools control their own admissions arrangements.
| Primary schools (for pupils age 4 to 9)
Of the 46 primary schools:
- 25 are community
- 16 are Church of England (four aided and 12 controlled)
- 5 are Roman Catholic (all aided)
| High schools (for pupils age 13 to 18)
All five high schools are community schools. They all have sixth forms for pupils who want to stay on after 16
| | Middle schools (for pupils age 9 to 13) Of the 16 middle schools:
- 12 are community;
- 2 (Mayfield and Bishop Lovett in Ryde) are Church of England controlled;

- 1 (Archbishop King, Newport) is Roman Catholic aided.
Children from all parts of the Island attend the two aided middle schools.
