Strategy for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs/Learning Difficulties and Disabilities 2008 – 2012Local Authorities are required to have a strategy for children and young people with special educational needs and/or learning difficulties and disabilities. The strategy sets out the vision for the next few years, how it will be achieved and what difference it will make for children. It has been informed by a comprehensive SEN review undertaken in 2007 and by needs identified by stakeholders. A working group of officers, headteachers and Parent Partnership met on 6 occasions to draw up the strategy; a draft was shared with the SEN Parents’ Voice group and revisions made as a result of parents’ comments. The strategy has been out for public consultation. The consultation period is now over. The responses to the strategy will be analysed and, where appropriate, changes made. The revised strategy will go to Cabinet for approval in September and will be published in the Autumn.
