RE - Post 16

Schools and colleges offer a variety of advanced level courses. You will usually be able to choose from:
  • general AS and A level (GCE);
  • vocational AS and A level (VCE);
  • other vocational qualifications, such as the BTEC National Diploma or NVQs.
RE00
The restructuring of RE in schools has led to the revision of Agreed Syllabuses which now include new examination courses focusing on exploring personal beliefs as well as gaining knowledge and understanding of the religious beliefs of others.
In the context of the whole school, Religious Education is seen as having a significant contribution to make to students' spiritual, personal, moral, cultural and social development, this being the context in which the 1988 Education Reform Act places the whole curriculum of the school. The focus on Citizenship throughout the curriculum further emphasises the importance of the role of RE.
Courses combine theory and practical application and explore the rationale for RE and ways to develop the spiritual, moral and religious understanding of students.
An understanding and appreciation of other faiths is essential in our multicultural society and an important part of any course is the multi-faith element which focuses on the six major world religions.
