News Flash

The success of Science Year has led to it being extended until July 2003 – (see below*)

ScienceYear00

Science Year  is a 12month packed calender of events, projects & resources designed to stimulate the imagination about science & technology.

It starts in  September 2001 and ends in September 2002.

The success of Science Year has led to it being extended until July 2003. Launched in September 2001, Science Year aimed to increase young peoples’ interest and engagement in Science. It has already given more than £4 million in new science resources to schools. Visit the Science Year website to find out more details.

Science Year

It’s for everyone, but it’s focussed particularly on people between the ages of 10 and 19 and the adults around them - especially their teachers. Science Year isn’t about test-tubes, voltmeters and bunsen burners though. It’s about raising awareness of the wide and wonderful world of subjects and careers that are underpinned by science and technology.

For example

forensics • medicine • music • computers • volcanoes • film • fashion • space • health • inventions • fossils • architecture • sport

You name it

Ok, there are a few subjects that don’t involve science at all ... but not very many. So an understanding of what science is all about and what it can do for us is a very valuable thing to have. And if learning and teaching science can be made more colourful and more stimulating than ever before, we all stand to benefit. In other words it’s less about the smell of formaldehyde – and more about the smell of SUCCESS!
